Alexis Serio received her MFA in painting from The University of Pennsylvania in 2000, and her BFA in painting from Syracuse University in 1998. Alexis combines abstraction with a sense of illusion to create an experience of remembrance. Her colors are chosen to suggest the natural elusiveness of ever changing light and constant optical movement. Layers of thick and thin paint suggest the idea of solid and ephemeral, and the relationship of permanence and impermanence.
Dewane Hughes is a sculptor; his work has always dealt with language. Influenced heavily by the poets of the Beat Generation, as well as subsequent linguistic scholars such as Noam Chomsky and Marshall Mcluhan, Hughes works to create a formal reality that speaks to the essence of communication. It is his contention that “art” happens in the space between the object and the viewer. It is from this perspective that he creates sculpture that is a manifestation of the space between language, and how we perceive a message.
