You’ve heard us talk a lot about “Waco 52,” here, Caitlin Giddens, with Creative Waco, tells you what it’s all about.
The Waco 52 Pop-Up Gallery is officially open at 712 Austin Avenue. But what’s a pop-up gallery, anyway?
It’s a short-term art exhibition that displays the creative potential in a community. It’s a temporary gallery that reveals a broad array of talent and local, long-lasting interest in culture and art. And it’s exactly what Downtown Waco needs now.
Creative Waco curated Waco 52 based on the exhibition displayed in the Lower Rotunda of the Texas State Capitol building in May. The gallery showcases pieces, each created by Waco and McLennan County artists, that portray a unique aspect of our community. The images range from the city’s historic attractions to hidden gems, each contributing to the story of living and working in Waco.
In addition to the inspiring exhibition, this pop-up gallery serves as a gathering place for local artists, community members, businesses owners and more. Throughout the month of August, Waco 52 will welcome live music, poetry and philosophy nights, a calligraphy class, a Gospel Brunch, farm-to-table dinners and yoga classes. Next to the gallery, you’ll find a retail area, offering framed prints and locally handmade items, and Luna Juice Café. The gallery is also offering mini residencies to visual artists, who work upstairs at 712 Austin Avenue.
