Science Thursdays is a series of one-hour talks on various scientific topics. No science background is required, only enthusiasm for and an open interest in science.
Einstein’s Spacetime Ripples Captured! Einstein’s spacetime ripples(gravitational waves) were finally detected by two detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) in 2015, 100 years after they were first predicted. Since then, four more gravitational waves have been detected. The 2017 Nobel Prize was awarded for their discovery. A basic review of gravitational waves and explanation for the challenges for their detection.
Join the speaker and guests for coffee and cookies prior to each lecture at 6:30 pm. Science Thursdays lectures are free and open to the public; however, admission to the museum is not included.
