Shopping Local: The Boutiques on Franklin in Downtown Waco

A modern four-story apartment building on a city corner, featuring a mix of brick and olive-green exterior, with large balconies and ground-floor shops.

Looking for the best shopping in Waco? Start in the heart of Downtown along Franklin Avenue. Here, a collection of locally owned boutiques offers everything from trendy outfits to timeless staples—each shop filled with pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

What makes shopping in Downtown Waco special isn’t just the clothing—it’s the people behind the storefronts. Each boutique is locally owned and thoughtfully curated, bringing personality, creativity, and a unique point of view to the downtown shopping scene.

Mainstream Boutique

Owner and founder Gina Mitchell describes her clientele as “more mature women, around 30 and older,” reflecting the boutique’s elevated yet approachable style.

What makes Mainstream Boutique stand out is its exclusive selection. The boutique carries apparel lines that customers won’t find anywhere else, offering pieces that make shopping local feel even more personal.

Its location in Downtown Waco has played a major role in the boutique’s success. Gina shares that one of her favorite parts of being downtown is the people, saying she loves “getting to see all and meet all the wonderful people who come to Waco from all over the country.” She adds that visitors bring “such a positive feel, positive attitude about everything downtown Waco has to offer.”

The shop sees a steady mix of customers—from Baylor University parents visiting their students to fans in town for sporting events, along with tourists exploring the Silos. This blend of locals and visitors creates a vibrant, welcoming shopping environment.

DylanNICOLE Boutique

Just down the street, DylanNICOLE Boutique offers a fresh, trend-forward experience. Owner and founder Karen Hansen shares that the boutique primarily serves young college women from their first year through their first job, while still offering styles for women of all ages.

At DylanNICOLE, the focus is on intentional curation and customer experience. Karen prioritizes helping shoppers find unique pieces while creating a personal, welcoming environment.

Being located in Downtown Waco has had a strong, positive impact on the boutique. Karen says one of her favorite parts of being downtown is having the opportunity to meet all the tourists that come to town, and finding out where they’re from and why they’re here.

Supporting local businesses is central to DylanNICOLE’s mission. From their Baylor ambassador program to pouring into the Waco community, Karen explains how important it is to meet the clothing needs of women while ensuring the pieces are both trendy and well-made.

The shop attracts a mix of Baylor students, young professionals, and visitors exploring downtown—creating an energetic and inviting atmosphere that keeps customers coming back.

Twisted Sisters Shoetique

Rounding out the Boutiques on Franklin, Twisted Sisters Shoetique has been part of the downtown community for nearly four years, growing alongside other local businesses and contributing to the area’s distinct shopping experience.

Owner Erin Kubala shares that what she loves most about doing business downtown is the strong sense of community. Having worked at and owned businesses in the area for over 15 years, she says it truly feels like home and values how local business owners support and take care of one another.

That sense of community is also why shopping locally is so important. “Small businesses play a vital role in giving back, from sponsoring kids’ sports teams to supporting local causes and showing up when it matters most. It’s that level of care and connection that makes shopping in Downtown Waco feel more meaningful,” Erin shares.

Twisted Sisters Shoetique is known for offering stylish, on-trend pieces at affordable prices while creating a welcoming environment for every customer. More than anything, the boutique focuses on building relationships, making each person who walks through the door feel like part of the community.

Whether you’re searching for a statement piece, a new pair of boots, or a timeless outfit for a special occasion, the Boutiques on Franklin offer a shopping experience that goes beyond the rack. With walkable storefronts, welcoming shop owners, and a strong sense of community, it’s easy to spend an afternoon discovering something new.

When you shop here, you’re not just finding great style—you’re supporting the people and small businesses that help make Downtown Waco what it is.
