To become an exceptional painter, one must first be an exceptional draftsman. Over the three days, students will learn how to observe and capture expressive portraits in graphite. From the initial steps, like how to sharpen a pencil to a long, tapered point, to complex rendering.
The first day will be dedicated to an instructor demonstration: while Jaivin draws from the model, he’ll share in-depth knowledge about his method and how conceptual principles direct his creative decisions. All in attendance are encouraged to ask questions while he works to further explore topics of interest or curiosity.
Equipt with new insight, participants are encouraged to apply all they learned for the final two days: with timely feedback and individualized critique, each artist will leave with an original piece alongside new ideas to galvanize their independent practice.
