On Sunday, May 6, Chip Gaines and about 6,000 others will hit the Waco pavement in the Silo District Marathon (or Half-marathon or 5k). And around 10,000 folks are expected to be out and about cheering the runners on.
If you’re running, good luck and have fun!
But even if you’re not running, you could find your Sunday affected by road closures and the roving paths of the races. For example, Austin Avenue will be closed from 3rd to 17th street from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. To see if your route to church or the donut shop is affected, we suggest checking out the Road closure map and Road closure list on the Silo District Marathon site.
The good news is that there should be officers at busier intersections, making sure cars and runners can cross paths safely.
If you plan to be downtown that Sunday morning to cheer on runners or just see what’s up, you’ll find local hot spots like The Olive Branch, Dichotomy Coffee & Spirits and Café Cappuccino open and ready to meet your coffee and breakfast-y needs. Some other restaurants will open a bit later. For a list and map of downtown eateries, see the Downtown Waco website.
We hope locals and visitors alike will have a great Sunday in and around downtown!
