May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month—a time to celebrate the rich cultural contributions of the AAPI community. Downtown Waco is proud to be home to a diverse range of Asian-owned businesses that bring bold flavors, creativity, and meaningful community connections to our city. Whether you’re dining out, discovering new art, or shopping small, these local gems offer the perfect way to support and celebrate AAPI heritage right here in Waco.

Curry Up & Wok This Way

Located in Union Hall, Curry Up & Wok This Way serves authentic Thai cuisine that transports your taste buds to the streets of Bangkok. Their Panang curry and Pad Thai are house favorites—made from traditional recipes and fresh ingredients.

Cha Community

Cha Community is a boba tea café known for its premium drinks and Taiwanese-Chinese eats. Founded in 2018 by Jaja and Devin Chen, it’s more than just a tea shop—it’s a space for connection, inclusion, and celebration of Asian culture in the heart of Waco.

Raj Solanki Art

Raj Solanki is a local Asian-American illustrator whose work ranges from digital art to murals. Currently working on his first webcomic series, Raj blends storytelling and visual art to create pieces that speak to creativity and identity.

Designs with Jamie

Jamie Wong Baesa is a visual artist inspired by the beauty of creation. Her pieces are often featured in local markets and stores like Cha Community. Through her art and her motto—”Know value, bestow value”—she uplifts and encourages young women to embrace their strength and identity.

The Blasian Asian

A unique fusion of Cambodian and Black-American cuisine, The Blasian Asian brings bold, creative dishes to the table. Owners Chevy and Mike DuBose serve up favorites like Jakak skewers and garlic fried rice, offering an unforgettable culinary experience.

Teriyaki Park

Teriyaki Park delivers Japanese-inspired dishes with fresh ingredients and house-made recipes. Known for flavorful options like bibimbap and bulgogi, this spot brings authentic taste and comfort to the downtown food scene.

Clay Pot

A longtime local favorite, Clay Pot is a family-owned Vietnamese restaurant now nestled downtown. Owned by Phong and Thanh Le, the menu spans North and South Vietnamese flavors—from hearty bowls of pho to crisp spring rolls. Don’t miss their charming backyard patio, a true hidden gem.

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue
