The long-awaited total solar eclipse is almost here! On April 8, 2024, the moon will completely cover the sun, resulting in a solar eclipse of four minutes and 13 seconds of totality. The eclipse passes directly through Waco, making it a prime location to witness this historic event. To celebrate, Downtown Waco is bursting with events and excitement! We’ve compiled a list of celebrations leading up to the eclipse so you don’t miss out on any of the fun!
Discover Waco Art Center’s newest exhibit from March 28-May 4. The art featured in this exhibit will explore the contrast of the beauty and chaos of a solar eclipse through the creative minds of artists. Don’t miss this thought-provoking exhibit!
Kick off an eventful weekend of eclipse celebrations with a night of country and rock music! On Friday, April 5, head to Indian Springs Park to hear Band of Horses and Lukas Nelson live. The gates open at 6 p.m., music will begin at 7 p.m., and admission is free!
On Saturday, April 6, the Waco Convention Center is hosting the STEAMclipse: a free, family-friendly festival. This event celebrates the eclipse while recognizing science, technology, engineering, art and math. NASA will be speaking and displaying their work, and there will be booths, presentations and entertainment for all to enjoy!
Light up the night on Saturday, April 6, by running in the Glow Over Waco Fun Run and 5K! LED lights and glow sticks will illuminate the course, and all proceeds will benefit the Greater Waco Sports Commission. The one-mile fun run begins at 7:30 p.m., and the 5K starts at 8 p.m. Sign up now!
Big Boi of OutKast, DJ Z-Trip and Arrested Development will perform at Indian Square Park on Saturday, April 6! The gates open at 6 p.m., music will begin at 7 p.m., and admission is free!
Grab the kids and head to Art Center Waco on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.! This family day will be focused on their exhibit, “Eclipse: Shining Shadows.” There will be tours, face painting, art activities and Tru Jamaica’s food truck! This event is free, but register in advance to ensure a spot!
End your weekend on Sunday, April 7 with the Lights Over Waco Festival at Indian Square Park. There will be music, food, a walking lantern parade over the Waco Suspension Bridge and even a drone show. Prepare for the event by making your own lantern at a DIY workshop offered by the Waco-McLennan County Library from April 1-4!
After a weekend of celebrating, witness the historic solar eclipse in Downtown Waco on April 8!
